MOMO
Free forever · your own AI

Get a free AI key in 2 minutes

MOMO works with any AI provider. Paste one free key in Settings and every AI feature — questions, quizzes, mock-exam marking, podcasts, video overviews — runs on your own key with no daily limit. Your key never leaves your browser except inside your own requests, and we never store it.

Why add a key?

Without a key you get a free daily AI allowance on MOMO's shared keys — enough to try everything. With your own free key you skip the limit entirely, your requests are faster (no shared queue), and it costs you nothing: every provider below has a genuinely free tier that's more than enough for studying.

Groq

Recommended · free

The fastest option (Llama 3.3 70B at hundreds of tokens per second). Free tier is generous and needs no card. Also powers page-image OCR and podcast voices.

  1. Go to console.groq.com and sign up (Google account works).
  2. Open API Keys in the left menu → Create API Key.
  3. Name it "momo", copy the key (starts with gsk_).
  4. In MOMO Settings: provider Groq, paste, Save, then Test.

OpenRouter

Free models

One key, dozens of models — the ones tagged :free cost nothing. Good backup if a provider is busy.

  1. Go to openrouter.ai and sign in (Google/GitHub).
  2. Click your avatar → KeysCreate Key.
  3. Copy the key (starts with sk-or-).
  4. In Settings: provider OpenRouter, paste, Save, Test. Default model is a free one; leave it blank.

GLM (Z.ai)

Free tier

Zhipu's GLM models with a free tier — a solid alternative when you want a second free key.

  1. Go to z.ai (Zhipu open platform) and create an account.
  2. Open the API Keys page from your profile menu.
  3. Create a key and copy it.
  4. In Settings: provider GLM / Z.ai, paste, Save, Test.

Google Gemini

Free tier

Uses your Google account. Bonus: a Gemini key also gives you the best podcast voices (multi-speaker TTS) on your own quota.

  1. Go to aistudio.google.com and sign in.
  2. Click Get API keyCreate API key.
  3. Copy the key (starts with AIza).
  4. In Settings: provider Google Gemini, paste, Save, Test.

Common questions

Is this safe? Yes. The key is saved in your browser only (localStorage). Each AI request carries it over HTTPS to your chosen provider; MOMO's server never logs or stores it, and you can remove it any time in Settings.

Will I be charged? Not on the free tiers above — they don't require a card. If you ever hit a provider's free limit, requests just pause until it resets; nothing is billed.

Which one should I pick? Groq. It's the fastest and the free tier easily covers a heavy study day. Add OpenRouter as a spare if you want.

What if my key stops working? The Test button in Settings tells you exactly what's wrong (expired, rate-limited, or wrong model name).
